Natural Carpet Cleaner & Deodorizer
Ingredients
- 1 cup Baking Soda
- 15 drops Purification essential oil
- 6-8 oz. glass shaker bottle
Directions
- Mix the ingredients and store them in a glass and stainless steel shaker. Try this shaker if you don’t already have one.
- To use, sprinkle over your carpet and let it set for about 5 minutes.
- Vacuum as normal.
- Store in a safe place away from children. If you store it open in your linen closet, it will keep the air fresh and deodorized. No stagnant, stale closet smell!
For strong odors or heavy pet areas, we add another step that integrates a simple spray cleaner recipe. We combine the Deodorizing Carpet Powder and with a DIY household liquid spray cleaner for powerful, natural results. The combination of the two is perfect for when you need a little boost in your cleaning.
- To use with the Deodorizing Carpet Powder, sprinkle the carpet with powder. Allow powder to sit on carpet about 5 minutes.
- On the areas that need extra attention, lightly spray with the All-Purpose Non-Toxic Cleaning Spray. The mixture will bubble a little.
- After about 30 seconds, dab up the damp mixture and vacuum up the remains.
This spray recipe is a great all-purpose household cleaner all by itself. And, yes, we promise that the vinegar smell goes away very quickly.

Hey there!
Nice post. I just tried this out at one of my jobs and it worked like magic. I’m a small carpet cleaner in Madison and I used this recipe exactly as stated and it got rid of the dirt while at the same time leaving the room with a beautiful smell.
Anyways.. Good blog! Keep it up 🙂

I have a dyson- and it specifically states to never use baking soda since it can cake up inside the vacuum and clog things– there is a special powder that you can buy just to use with dyson so called zorb I think– i may even have some way underneath my sink– from before oils– is there anyone out there that has a dyson– I have a small cleaning business and this would be great info to have — in my home as well!

Hi! I’m also curious as I have a Dyson as well. Did you ever find an answer? And I did not know about the product you mentioned that Dyson recommends, Zorb? Where can I purchase that if I can’t use Baking Soda? Thanks!

Purification Oil? Is that something like Tea Tree, Clove, or Patchouli essential oil?
Diana M says
Purification is a blend specific to Young Living. It contains Citronella, Lavandin, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Myrtle, and Tea Tree. It is great for purifying and deodorizing just about anything.
