Best Essential Oils for your Christmas Tree

I know there are two camps when it comes to Christmas trees. Real vs. artificial. I see the pros and cons of both. I’ve had both and I really do know the joys of having a real tree and a fake one. Whichever path you choose, the scent of Christmas can still be yours. These Essential Oils for your Christmas Tree can bring the natural smell of freshly cut Christmas into your home.

This is how I see it…

On the other hand…

So after much pondering and weighing, I came to the conclusion that our family would have a fake tree. (Okay, if you’re a die-hard “real” tree person, stick with me here because this recipe works great for you, too!) The only thing I really missed was the smell.

Believe me. I know that sounds silly…a grown woman pining over the smell of a tree. (I know! I’m so punny!) But seriously, the smell is one of the most amazing things about going through the trouble of picking out, cutting down, and setting up a real tree. There is just nothing like that natural smell of freshly cut Christmas.

Well, now we have that smell again!

I gathered together some of my favorite woodsy scents and went to work coming up with the right scent. My son even helped. I put together a few combinations and let him pick his favorite.

Here are the Best Essential Oils for your Christmas Tree:

Of course, this is not an exhaustive list of possibilities. But these were the ones I felt captured the essence of what I was looking for. After a few tries, we came up with a combination that was magical:

Simply add few drops of each oil onto a wool or felt Christmas ornament [1] and hang it on the tree. This scent is subtle and yet lingering. I could smell it after arriving back home from a day out, but it wasn’t overpowering at all. It was a good natural scent combination.

I plan on adding a few drops every couple of days heading into the holiday season. We might even try a different Christmas tree essential oil recipe next week!

Your preferences for the scent will be different. So play around and get the kids involved. This is definitely going to be a new part of our annual family tradition of decking out the tree!
