There is just something about an essential oil-infused steam shower that will recharge and invigorate you. One of my favorite morning routines is to add a homemade shower bomb to my shower and start the hot water. The oils are released throughout my shower and help get me going in the morning! These Shower Bombs are inexpensive, easy to make, and you can add a wide variety of scents to them depending upon your mood.
My two preferred essential oils (especially in the winter) are Peppermint and R.C. (which is a unique blend of Cypress, Spruce, and three types of Eucalyptus (E. globulus, E. radiata, and E. citriodora) oils). But the best thing about a shower bomb is that you can use any oils you want! Looking for a more peaceful shower? Try Lavender or Stress Away. Looking for a fresh and inviting smell? Use some Lemon or Grapefruit essential oil.
As long as it’s considered topical (check the essential oil label), then you can use it.
Essential Oil Shower Bombs are inexpensive, easy to make, and very customizable for how you feel that day.
A couple of tips to make amazing shower bombs:
- Keep in mind is that while you can make these in a muffin tin with paper cups, they do tend to stick A LOT to the paper. So my preference is to use a silicone mold as the shower bombs are much easier to remove once cooled. Any silicon mold would work, but these heart-shaped silicone molds [1] are so cute and would also create a really pretty gift idea!
- The baking time and temperature below are for mini-sized molds that we used (link above). If you are using a bigger mold, then the time for baking (drying out) will be significantly longer.
- You don’t have to bake these at all. You can absolutely set them on the counter to dry for a couple of days until thoroughly dry.
- If you attempt to remove the shower bombs from the silicon pan BEFORE they are completely dry, then they will crumble and fall apart before you can even get them in the shower. So be patient.
- This recipe below created shower bombs that lasted for 2 complete showers when not placed in a direct stream of water.
- And, final note…keep them out of the reach of children at all times! They look interesting to little children and you do not want them to take a bite!

Invigorating Shower Steamer
Ingredients
- 1 cup baking soda
- 2 Tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/3 cup water
- Couple leaves of peppermint [3], optional
- 90 – 120 drops R.C. essential oil blend
- 90 – 120 drops Peppermint essential oil
- mini silicone mold pan [4] (approx. 1 oz. size wells)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 200 F.
- Mix baking soda, cornstarch, and water together in a small bowl.
- Place a peppermint leaf in the bottom of each well, if desired.
- Add about 1 Tablespoon of the mixture to each well in your silicon pan [1] on top of the peppermint leaf. Should fill the well almost full in a mini-silicone mold.
- Bake at 200 F for 2 hours until completely dry. (If your shower bombs are still wet or even slightly damp, then either bake them longer or leave them to sit on the counter for 24-48 hours until thoroughly dry.)
- Once completely dry from baking (or sitting out) and cooled, then carefully remove each shower bomb from the pan.
- Add 6-8 drops of each essential oil to each shower bomb (you can always add more if you desire).
- Store in an air-tight container until ready to use. Once you are ready, place one shower bomb on the floor of your shower and enjoy the invigoration of essential oil-infused steam!
- Yield – 15 shower bombs
