My sweet daughter Mia has a 2-inch scar on her cheek that just won’t fade. The worst part is her little brother is the cause of this particular scar. A few summers ago she and her brother were rough-housing and he accidentally scratched her cheek with his nail. She bled a bit, she had a good cry, and we moved on.
After the wound healed, a thin dark line was left behind. Mia has dark skin like her dad that tans easily. We spent a lot of time at the pool that summer and out in the sun. I think the scar bothers me more than it bothers her. Plus, I have a huge amount of mom guilt.
So now we are using this scar serum recipe daily to help speed up the healing process, fade the scar, and brighten her skin. Stay tuned for an update!
What is a Scar?
A scar can form any time skin is damaged. If a cut or a wound is deep enough it can harm the layers of the skin. As the skin heals, a scar is left behind. This can be temporary or permanent. A scar can vary in color, size, and depth. Early treatment is one way to reduce the risk of scarring.
How to Diminish the Appearance of a Scar
Caring for a wound and treating the skin immediately after an injury can help diminish the appearance of the scar. As the wound heals, certain topical products and natural remedies may help reduce scarring:
- Vitamin E oil helps fight free radicals and ease inflammation
- Jojoba Oil may help speed up collagen production in skin cells without clogging pores
- Shea Butter or Cocoa Butter contains essential fatty acids that the help skin maintain elasticity
- Sunscreen blocks UV rays that could burn (and scar) newly formed skin
- Vitamin C helps to brighten the skin and reduce redness when added to a skincare routine
