These two easy Healthy Hair Recipes can be used together or separately to gently cleanse your hair and scalp. Remove product residue while nourishing your skin for a healthier shine. Use them together for more manageable hair.

This is Part II of our Healthy Hair series. You can find Part I including recipes for Overnight Deep Conditioning & Spray On Conditioner for Dry Hair here!

2 Healthy Hair Recipes: Nourishing Scalp Massage & Cleansing Hair Rinse | RecipesWithEssentialOils.com

I’ve gone through stages with my hair. I want it long (which translates to more time with the blow dryer). I want it easier to care for (which means ponytails). I want it trendy (which translates to a new hair cut and lots of hair products). No matter the stage I’m in, I always end up noticing that I’d much rather my hair be healthy and clean than anything else.

Whether you prefer short and trendy or long and flowing, I hope you’ll find that these quick treatments help you enjoy hair that is the best kind of healthy, clean, and vibrant.

New to essential oils? Learn more about how we use them and why you should use them as well.

Nourishing Scalp Massage

Nourishing Scalp Massage for Hair Growth Recipe from RecipesWithEssentialOils.com

The scalp massage is perfect if you’re trying to grow out your hair. Scalp massage actually helps increase circulation and can also help clear up any buildup of dead skin cells that might be hanging around.

I like to use the scalp massage, then shampoo with my normal shampoo, and finish with a hair rinse (recipe at the bottom) on the same day. I really like that the rinse leaves my hair feeling super clean even though I slathered the olive oil scalp massage on my head earlier in the routine. Using these two recipes together helps my hair get the most out of the beauty regimen.

Nourishing Scalp Massage

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 drops Rosemary essential oil
  • 1 drop Lavender essential oil
  • 1 drop Ylang Ylang essential oil
  • 1 drop Basil essential oil
  • 1 drop Cypress essential oil

Directions

  • Combine the ingredients in a bowl.
  • Gently massage the oil into your scalp. This is best done when the hair is dry so you can move around and through your hair easily. Focus on using small circular motions on your scalp.
  • Cover your head with a towel and let the massage oil sit for 30 minutes before shampooing as normal.
  • This treatment can be applied once or twice a week.

Cleansing and Beautifying Hair Rinse

Cleansing and Beautifying Hair Rinse from RecipesWithEssentialOils.com

The cleansing hair rinse is great for removing buildup from beauty products and encouraging your hair to show off its natural shine and beauty. The apple cider vinegar helps balance the pH of your hair while the essential oils help invigorate your scalp and moisturize your locks.

Cleansing and Beautifying Hair Rinse

Ingredients

  • 2 drops Rosemary essential oil
  • 1 drop Tea Tree essential oil
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup water

Directions

  • Combine the ingredients in a plastic or stainless steel cup. You’ll be taking the mixture into the bath, so don’t use glass in case it slips out of your hands!
  • After shampooing your hair as normal, pour this mixture over your hair focusing on covering every strand. Be careful to keep the rinse out of your eyes.
  • There is no need to rinse this out of your hair or apply conditioner. Your hair will smell like vinegar only until it dries. After that the smell will evaporate.
  • Enjoy this beauty treatment once a week.

Note: People with long or extra thick hair might want to double or triple this recipe for each application. You could also combine these ingredients in a spray bottle and apply that way. But I find the rinse in the shower much easier to get all the goodness throughout my hair.

These recipes are pretty flexible. If you don’t have all the oils mentioned you can try substituting with oils you do have on hand or doubling up on another oil in the recipe. Have fun and find a recipe that works for you and your family!

Some of these recipes use rosemary essential oil in very diluted amounts that are safe for most people. However, rosemary essential oil is extremely potent, and these recipes SHOULD NOT be used by anyone pregnant or nursing. Also, these recipes should be AVOIDED by people affected by seizure disorders, bleeding disorders, or those allergic to aspirin due to a possible interaction with the rosemary.

We’re working a pre-wash conditioner and shampoo that will be good for most hair types. They’ll be available in our next ebook.

Hello! Just basic extra virgin olive oil you use for cooking works great in this hair rinse.
