A beard looks its best when it’s soft, shiny, and neatly groomed, but beard and mustache hair is often overlooked. Do something nice for a man in your life and make them a Homemade Conditioning Beard Oil. Beards don’t have to be wiry and unruly! This recipe promotes a healthy, neat, and well-groomed beard.
My husband has never been one to keep a beard for very long. He usually starts growing one while on vacation, only to give up after a few days claiming he is irritated by the coarseness of the hairs and how it feels on his skin (I have no experience with this, so I’ll take his word for it).
He already uses essential oils as part of his daily grooming routine. When he does shave, this shave gel and aftershave give him smooth and conditioned skin. This beard oil was just what he needed to help him grow and maintain a healthy beard. His beard makes me happy!
How to Make Beard Oil
Beard oil works similarly to hair serum. It repairs and moisturizes hair follicles. It also helps prevent uncomfortable ingrown hairs which can lead to irritated skin. Nourishing carrier oils soften, while the essential oils moisturize and tame hair.
Vitamin E oil, grapeseed oil, and jojoba are wonderful in this recipe. They are light enough to absorb into facial hair, without leaving an oily residue. Jojoba is the closest oil to the sebum in your skin. Vitamin E adds shine and moisture back into dry hair. Grapeseed oil works to reduce clogged pores. This combination is perfect for all skin and hair types.
Best Essential Oils for Beards
A manly, woodsy scent would be my preference for this recipe, but there are so many options. Certain essential oils are great for nourishing hair. Here are some essential oils to try in your beard oil:
- Cedarwood
- Pine
- Vetiver
- Rosemary
- Peppermint
- Lavender
- Elemi
- Spruce
- Frankincense
- Sandalwood
- Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood
- Northern Lights Black Spruce
- Sacred Mountain
- Shutran
- Valor
This beard oil recipe keeps an unruly beard soft and manageable. It also makes a great homemade gift!
