I’m always willing to try new essential oils. With all the amazing options available, it’s hard to know where to start in experimenting with new (to you) oils. I’ve spent some time developing my essential oil collection and there are a few oils that I would suggest as you build beyond your starter kit.

10 EOs to try this year after the starter kit from RecipeswithEssentialOils.com

10 Unique Essential Oils to Try10 EOs to Try Cedarwood, Clary Sage and Elemi from RecipeswithEssentialOils.com

Cedarwood Essential Oil, 15 ml

People swear by the power of Cedarwood Essential Oil for bringing a sense of calm. (It’s a very popular oil for improving your sleep!) It’s woodsy and warm and the price is RIGHT! This was in my first order after my Premium Starter Kit. I’ve reordered several times since this and everyone in my family loves the scent. It’s manly without being musky, which is why we added it to our men’s shave gel recipe. And, we love it for diffusing (fall diffuser scents, winter diffusers, and purifying diffuser blends).

Clary Sage Essential Oil, 15 ml

It’s for any woman that wants to be balanced. Young Living describes it as having “a mellow, warm, herbal scent that is uplifting and relaxing, making it a perfect choice for supporting a normal, healthy attitude during PMS.” Yep! That’s why I keep it on hand! This also makes it amazing for our His & Hers Romantic Massage Oil blends. Plus, it’s perfect for your hair and for diffusing!

Elemi Essential Oil, 15 ml

Have you heard that Elemi Essential Oil is called “poor man’s frankincense?” I knew I had to try it because I’m always looking for ways to stretch my bottle of Frankincense Essential Oil. It’s one of Jenn’s favorite scents which is why she uses it our Mood Lifting diffuser blends. I use it on my face and I can’t tell you how much I love it. It’s spicy and slightly balsamic like Frankincense. And, it really is great for delicate and sensitive skin, which is why it’s a great oil to use in our homemade foaming hand soap recipe.

10 EOs to try Eucalyptus Radiata, Gentle Baby, Geranium, and Jade Lemon from RecipeswithEssentialOils.com

Eucalyptus Radiata Essential Oil, 15 ml

Ahhhh…breathe it in! Eucalyptus Radiata Essential Oil has such a bright and amazing scent. I diffuse it by itself or combine it in a blend when I want to have a truly amazing breath of fresh air. Of all the eucalyptus options, this one is my favorite! You could also throw it in a homemade shower bomb.

Gentle Baby Essential Oil, 5 ml

I heard about Gentle Baby first when I read this book. It took me a few months to get around to ordering it and I opened it the first day it arrived. I cannot express to you how peaceful and sweet this essential oil blend is. It is tender and so delicate; this makes it perfect for bedtime roll-on blends and our goodnight bedtime spray. I immediately put it into my purse and carry it with me everywhere.

Geranium Essential Oil, 15 ml

If I could point to ONE essential that I’d recommend for beauty, it would be Geranium. I use it in my toner, bedtime blend, and my homemade lip balm. It’s phenomenal for beautifying your skin and hair. And I really like the feminine floral scent.

Jade Lemon Vitality Essential Oil, 5ml

If you like to taste things that are beyond delicious then may I please present to you – Jade Lemon! It’s my favorite oil for making my water amazing every single time. I will never in my life be without this essential oil in my purse. (Here are my favorite essential oil bags I use so I never leave home without my Jade Lemon!)  And, it’s a perfect ingredient for grilling marinades like our Asian Pork Marinade.

10 EOs to try Joy, Tea Tree, and Valor from RecipeswithEssentialOils.com

Joy Essential Oil, 15 ml

It’s time I told the truth about this. When I first opened my bottle of Joy Essential Oil I was so excited. Doesn’t the name just sound amazing?! But I did not love it when I took my first sniff. In fact, I kind of hated it. I couldn’t believe it. But everyone raved about it so I gave it another chance. Now I love to diffuse it with Lemon Essential Oil. This is my go-to essential oil for wearing in my diffuser necklace, too! I never knew an essential oil could grow on me like that! It’s a perfect oil to blend with grapefruit essential oil when diffusing to get your mind focused and centered on a project!

Tea Tree Essential Oil, 15 ml

You might have heard of the benefits and uses of tea tree in your research. It’s a unique essential oil that has a fresh aroma and hundreds of uses for every single day of the year. I can’t live without Tea Tree Essential Oil. I use it for household cleaning, beautifying hair recipes, and hand cleanser, to name a few.

Valor Essential Oil, 5 ml

Before I even heard of Young Living, I had heard of Valor! It’s so beloved by oilers. This is the reformulation of Valor that has the same properties as the original. The scent of this unique blend is incomparable in its ability to center your mind and allow you to focus on the next thing. Its woodsy, positive scent comes from a blend of Black Spruce, Blue Tansy, and Frankincense. Valor is great for massages, in addition to other topical and aromatic uses. We love it in our Relaxing Diffuser recipe blends!

What do you do with the water in your diffuser when you want to change the blend but you haven’t diffused all of the previous blend?

Hey Sharron! Thanks for your question. I like to absorb the remainder of the liquid in a paper towel and place it in my powder room waste basket. That way it doesn’t get mixed with the new oils and still freshens the air in the bathroom as it evaporates.

      Sharron,
If I know I’m going to be using it again in the near future, I have a glass jar I store it in. I know that sound cheap & cheesy but I value my oils – every drop. The other thing I will do if I’m not going to use it right away, use a clean, white wash cloth & absorb it to use in a dryer load, sometimes there’s enough to get 2 loads done.

I’m sorry to see that the travel bag you use and recommend is is no longer available. The company has at least temporarily closed and possibly permanently. They are so pretty.

I love your suggestions for oils beyond the Starter. I’ve been just randomly choosing different oils but nice to have suggestions and why you love them. Several of them I have not tried yet.

What oily Facebook pages do you use? Are they open to oilers who are not in your downline?

I am confused as a beginner essential oil user. I don’t nderstand when I need to add the oils to a base such as coconut oil. What would you recommend I read to understand essential oils? Thank you. Janis

Each essential oil will be labeled with dilution suggestions on the bottle. You should always use at least the amount of carrier oil indicated on the manufacturer’s label. We recommend diluting even more for younger children and those with sensitivities.
